How do you create content from scratch?
It’s easy… (there are many a marketer right now going, “Are you f’ing kidding me Jeff?”)
Nope, not kidding.
In fact, there isn’t much that IS easy to create from scratch. And you really don’t need to create anything from scratch.
I mean are there really any new ideas anymore?
I digress… Back to creating content from scratch.
I can’t tell you how many times people have asked me, “Jeff, I know I need to create content and have a content distribution/marketing strategy, but I just don’t know what content to create.”
You don’t need to know.
Your audience will tell you. Just ask.
People are amazing creatures. Typically, when you ask for help or for a favor, people will come to your rescue.
So, step one… Get on Facebook if you are not already (get with the century if you’re not).
Step two… Start building a following if you don’t already have one. I could do an entire post on creating a following on Facebook but I’m not. For now, share stuff with your friends and then ask them to share. OR if you can afford about $10-$20 a day then do a Page Post Engagement ad in Facebook and build your following that way.
Step three… Assuming you’ve built a following of at least a few hundred people, do a Facebook Live broadcast. Announce it the day before and a few days the day of everywhere you have a following (obviously on Facebook, but if you have an email database, followings on other Social Media channels, etc. announce it to them as well). Make sure when you announce it you tell them you have a new project you want to share with them and that you REALLY want them to be a part of it. Who doesn’t what to be part of a cool new project?
Step four… At the beginning of the Facebook Live announce your new project. Your project is that you are going to start posting content on relevant topics. And you want them to help you figure out the relevant topics. Maybe offer a gift to anyone that makes a suggestion that you use. Or put anyone that offers a suggestion in a hat and draw a name for an iPad or something.
Get the conversation going by asking them what are their biggest challenges in the field, product or service you specialize in.
If any of the people that show up for your Facebook Live have half a brain and are paying attention, they will start telling you their life stories.
THAT is the content.
Take what they are telling you and create blog posts, infographics, topic based Facebook Lives, webinars, slide shares, Tweets, Instagram images, etc., etc.
So, not knowing what content to create should NEVER be a handicap. Heck, get on someone else’s Facebook Live in your niche and see what their people are talking about if you have to.
Whatever it takes.
Just ask. Just watch and take note.
Your peeps or other’s peeps will tell you. People like to talk and share. That can become your ‘golden’ content.
