I recently did a blog post related to owning your customer.
(If you did not read that post, check it out here)
In that post I talk about owning your customer from the context of you generated the customer from YOUR marketing efforts and they bought YOUR product from YOUR website. (HINT: notice all of the YOUR’s)
To make this point clearer… If you sell products on Amazon, I hate to tell you, you DON’T own your customer… Amazon does!
We need to take this further though and I REALLY want you to get this…
YOU NEED TO OWN AS MUCH OF THE SUPPLY CHAIN, DISTRIBUTION OF YOUR PRODUCTS, SERVICES, STAFF, REAL ESTATE, ETC. AS POSSIBLE. (yes, caps means yelling so pretend like I had a megaphone up to your ear and well, your ear drum is ringing now)
This is THE fool-proof way of creating a long-term, sustainable business.
Look, this is another thing Amazon does VERY well (and most all hugely successful organizations).
Amazon is very close to owning out right or at least a piece of every part of the supply chain, distribution, etc. in their business.
As soon as they finish their flying droid technology they will own a big part of the delivery part of their business. They already own your/their customer. They already own a TON of the products that are sold. They already own a huge part of the supply chain from China, etc. They own warehouses and just about anything else you can imagine related to their business.
I really want you to get how POWERFUL that is… If UPS shuts down tomorrow… Amazon will not stop for long. If all the third party sellers that sell their stuff on Amazon go away… Amazon will not die.
Of course there are always ways to kill a business… Nothing in life or business is guaranteed. But you can make your business pretty darn risk proof if you own all or part of every little thing that’s involved in your businesses supply chain, distribution, customer, products, staff, etc.
So, figure it out… What parts of your business do you NOT own that you could at least own a piece of? Stretch your mind… Get creative… There’s got to be a way to own a piece of ALL of it. Maybe not a few pieces but just about all of it.
Figure it out… Its important for your legacy, longevity, prosperity and wealth!
