I caught up with Kevin Nations of ‘Chillionaire’ at last week’s Marketing Mayhem event. When I asked him what his #1 Digital Marketing Tip for 2016 was it was interesting as it had nothing to do with Digital Marketing!
Wait, did he say take your digital relationships offline as a digital marketing tip?
(watch it again if you need to)
Yes, he did… And man oh man does this open up a can of worms for me.
Watch out, I’m going to get on a bit of a soapbox here…
One of the things that I think has been a bit of a negative consequence of the WWW (World Wide Web in case you didn’t know… aka the internet) is that it has made a lot of people ‘connection deficient’.
I’m afraid its creating a generation of people who relate to a personal connection as a Facebook profile, a Twitter @ or #, or now a Snapchat code.
Hey news flash, those are actually human beings that are behind those!
And you will NEVER convince me that connecting with someone over Social Media, Email, etc. is better than live human interaction.
So, Kevin brings up a really good point here that backs up what I’m saying… If you REALLY want to take your business relationships to the next level, take them offline.
Meet these people in person and industry events. Or better yet, create your own mastermind. Experience things together. Go on ‘adventures’… Do philanthropy together.
Regardless of the digital age or not, people STILL do business with the people they know, like and trust.
And the good signs that I’m seeing is that while I’m concerned about the future generation, I do see some signs of the market adjusting. I’m seeing consumers and businesses NOT taking things they see online as Gospel as much anymore and they are getting to events, networking sessions, round tables, masterminds, etc. to meet people in person again.
PLEASE be one of those people. Get out from behind your computer, phone, tablet or watch now and get to know people in person.
It’ll create HUGE relational capital for you that will make your business much more secure and long-lasting than any amount of money could do.
