Last Monday (at the time of this writing) was Memorial Day here in the States.
If you’re a current or former member of our military, thank you for your service and protecting the freedoms that allow me to write this email and send it to you.
Memorial Day is a day where we are supposed to reflect on the memory of our fallen soldiers. So, if you’re a family member of a fallen soldier, I tip my hat to you. Sorry for your loss and thank you for being as brave as your soldier family member.
Let me follow that up with a challenge to anyone reading this as well…
This week I’d like you to reflect on and understand the impact you have on people everywhere in your business and your life. I think as human beings we don’t stay in-tune with how much of an impact we can have on people.
Good or bad.
Our soldiers go out everyday knowing that they will have an impact on the freedoms of our country. I don’t care what country you’re in, that’s just the way it is.
What positive or negative impact are you having on the people around you?
I have a business associate who never pays me or anyone else on time.
When I bring it up to her she thinks that as long as she pays ‘close’ to the due date that’s all that matters. What she doesn’t really take into account is that paying a day late even has a negative impact on a handful of people and things.
What’s really sad though is that the biggest impact is on her business. I know many a people that won’t do business with her anymore (including me).
And she’s completely oblivious to it. Because she has ‘enough’ people that do business with her that ‘tolerate’ it.
I think to myself, “gosh, what a breakthrough this woman could have if she would just pay people on time. Or if she can’t at least own up to and take responsibility for it (which she never does).”
Of course I used a negative impact scenario. There are positive examples I could give as well, but those might not motivate you to look and reflect on where you are missing the boat in the areas where you impact other people.
Are there things you are doing that might have a far reaching impact than you know? Are you settling anywhere? Are you hiding anything from anyone?
Be brutally honest.
Its in your long-term best interest. Trust me on that.
Thanks for reading!
